Sometimes I get a little excited when I have to go to the bathroom, like “Yes, finally a minute in my life to play a game or read a book.” A moment of reprieve and confidence; a task that I know I can complete in this uncertain world.

Father’s Day Painting - 2013
My dad has a particular fondness for vacationing in Florida (a tradition from his childhood), and since he wanted something handmade for Father’s Day, I decided to paint something reminiscent of happy memories.

I watched A. make this entire painting —- and I’m saying nothing against people that use reference, but I’d like to point out that A. didn’t use references for this piece. Just straight-up drawn free-hand on the wood before painting. What magical powers do those giant hands posses?
